 Rick's Writings

Wow, there have been many updates to Model Train Tips! I have been very busy with this and other projects, which is why it has taken so long to get another newsletter out to you. (It's a lame excuse, but it's the only one I have.)

The C & G Railroad by Chuck Schutz
I've added an article and photos of a very small HO layout with an incredible amount of detail. These pictures are courtesy of Chuck Schutz a 70 year old retired graphic artist from West Palm Beach, Florida. Check out Chuck's C & G Railroad.

If you would like to share pictures of your layout, even if it’s a work in progress, email your photos and layout info to: Info@Model-Train-Tips.com

Sharing is Caring!
At the bottom of each blog article is a new tool that allows you to share articles (like Chuck's) with others:

Sharing Is Caring!

If you hover your pointer over this tool, it will expand to show several icons. Each icon represents a social networking site or blogging related site. Example: the first icon is for Facebook; click on the Facebook icon and you can share the article on Facebook (assuming you use Facebook)with your friends. There are icons for Twitter, MySpace, and many others.

Feel free to play around with this, but let me know if you encounter any problems.

Requests
I've gotten requests from several folks regarding information about DCC in general as well as converting to DCC on existing railroads. I also want to more fully understand this so I'm planning to do some research into this topic and share it with you.

Thanks to all of you who have taken the time to write me with your comments and questions, I really do read them.

Rick

 What's New?

I've added four new sections to the Nav Bar:

Nav Bar

Techniques, which I talk about below in Train Tips

Layouts is where I share layout photos and other information

Links is where I'll put links to other model railroading websites that I think you may find useful

Archives, where you can find any page on the blog

Check them out, and if you have any techniques you'd like to share, layout photos you'd like to share, or links to other sites, let me know.

Railroad Modeling Techniques

Some time back I mentioned that I had acquired an already established model railroading website from someone who no longer wanted to devote the time necessary to maintain it. The site is chock full of content including tips and techniques submitted by many new and veteran model railroaders over the past eight years.

In August I moved several articles to the Model Train Tips blog to share them with you. Now I have created nine pages of Railroad Modeling Techniques; real tips and techniques from real railroad modelers.

Here are the categories:

Construction Techniques

Freight Car Techniques

Locomotives Techniques

Passenger Car Techniques

Scenery Techniques

Structure Techniques

Tool Techniques

Track Techniques

Weathering Techniques

I hope you find these useful.

 Featured Project

I'm still working on a review of three model railroading ebook guides available on the internet; Model Train Help, Model Trains For Beginners and The Complete Beginner's Guide To Model Trains.

With all of the projects on my plate this is taking longer than anticipated. I'll keep plugging and get it to you as soon as I can. So far, I am very impressed with Model Train Help.

I'm also working on getting some videos ready to post on Model Train Tips blog, so look for these soon.
